ABOUT US
Before there was a Bar Ilan Acting Society there was a young lady who just wanted to direct. Tsippi Stark was looking for something to do and she decided that directing a play was just the thing. Together with David Leitner she directed White Butterfly as well as acted in Sure Thing
The following year Shimi Weiss and Rafi Poch collaborated on a combined showing of Pillow Talk and The Actor’s Nightmare. With that the Bar Ilan Acting Society began in earnest. As a student initiative under the direction of the three member board, Shimi Weiss, Rafi Poch and David Leitner (all long time thespians) BIAS began to establish itself as one of the fun cultural experiences that had been missing at Bar Ilan University.
Since its inception BIAS has tried and succeeded to uphold some of the basic Jewish religious halachot. The way that each BIAS director has dealt with shmirat negia, kol isha, and other halachic issues has only added to the quality of each production.
BIAS was established primarily as an organization where students could meet and have a good time. It has been a means for the shy to become outgoing, the nervous to find courage and those who have a dream to find a means to fulfill it.
As a student initiative BIAS has staged six phenomenal productions with no proper stage, no lighting or sound and no financial backing. Each production BIAS tries to raise its production standard, be it in our acting, directing, stage design, or presentation. With the help of Mr. David Kalman, who donated the use of his light and sound systems for our recent production of Arsenic and Old Lace, BIAS reached a new standard. We thank him.
The Bar Ilan Acting Society would like to thank the Bar Ilan Student Union for their continued assistance in dealing the the University administration.
